Today I had the opportunity to preview this home in River Forest Acres for buyers.  I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this home and some of the additional features you don’t typically find in today’s construction.

River Forest Acres is located just off South Century Drive in Three Rivers South.  A 20 minute drive to Bend.  The roads are paved, there is National Forest access and Big Deschutes access, why pay for river frontage when you can have access without the cost.

Reverse Living Done Right

DSCN8162It’s a reverse living home, which in our neck of the woods means, the home is a 2 story home with the main living areas (kitchen, living room and master) upstairs.  Often times when a buyer approaches a reverse living home the first thing they see is a huge flight of stairs, yep that’s one of the things you will see when you approach this one too…. but let’s think about those stairs.  There is an attached garage which currently houses a freezer, refrigerator and some pantry type cabinets along with space for your car.  So would you be parking in the driveway and using those big stairs? NO – you would be pushing a button in your warm car (or in the summer cool car) and the garage door would open – you pull in and bingo you now have an easy flight of stairs that are divided by a landing.

The Perfect Great Room

Once you are upstairs everything you need is there, so really what’s the downside?  The benefits of living in a reverse living home are many.  Living up in the trees vs down on the ground you can watch the wildlife without being seen more often than not.  Sunsets and sunrises are less likely to be blocked by the trees and it’s kind of fun to feel like you are king or queen of the world.

DSCN8166My favorite room in this home was the great room!  What a great space, nice large windows, a stacked stone fireplace with a propane fire, the stockings were hung on the mantle which certainly gave this home a family touch.  The “office closet” was my favorite feature of the whole house… I want one. The kitchen is huge with beautiful hickory cabinetry, lots of counter top and an awesome propane cook top.  There is a great pantry and tons of cupboards, truly this is what I call a 4 butt kitchen, meaning 4 cooks can easily work in this kitchen without stepping on each other.

Some of my favorite features are;

  • built in dressers in the bedrooms
  • hickory cabinets
  • lighted pantry
  • huge walk in closet in master
  • angled double sinks in master bath
  • built in office closet in living room
  • stacked stone fireplace
  • covered deck with power

I could go on and on, this home is not only great construction but the pride of ownership is more than evident.  Tidy, clean and ready for it’s next owner.  This home would be a great place for a large family or empty nesters that enjoy having the kids or grandkids  visit.

Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms in addition to the master upstairs and there is a master downstairs.

Privacy You Wouldn’t Expect

One of the things that truly amazed me as I toured this home was the privacy.  With reverse living you look down onto any neighbors (there is only one you truly see) and into the trees.  Instead of feeling like the world was watching you, you were watching the world.

All of this and A Shop Too!

On top of all of this there is also a 20X30 shop a great place to store all the toys we like to play with in Central Oregon.  The shop is closer to the road, so it is the perfect place for someone that likes to tinker with power tools or the like and not have the noise in the house.  The garage also has a small work shop area.

What More Could You Want?

I truly like this home, and think that it might be one of those properties people overlook simply because the stairs in the front of the home intimidate them. Before crossing this home off your list because of a few stairs, you should give it a look there is much more than meets the eye.

Although I’m not familar with the term “reverse living” that’s the type house I live in here in Southern Colorado. It does provide me with privacy. Because my house is on the side of a hill I look down on my neighbors but my view down the valley is great.
The stair case my now be everyone’s cup of tea – but it works well for me.
